FALLAS TIME: Not long to go now.
BENIDORM’S Fallas fire fiestas are officially underway following the official announcement or ‘Crida’ in a packed Calle Gambo.
The three fiestas committees that organise the monumental Fallas that will finally go up in smoke on the night of March 19 paraded along the Levante beach promenade to the town centre.
“Fiestas are in the air and Benidorm smells of Fallas,” said Benidorm mayor Toni Perez. “The Crida is a call to everybody, an invitation to enjoy some fiesta days during a holiday that is the Valencianos’ most important and most traditional – our Fallas.”
The children’s Fallera Mayor, Helena Garcia Bluck, addressed the packed crowds in Calle Gambo, telling them: “Fallas are here,” while the principal Fallera, Iris Soriano Quiron, finished her speech with the traditional “Visca les Falles, visca Sant Josep y visca Benidorm!”
