ON MARCH 9, the National Police arrested a 71-year-old Argentinian Pedro Rodolfo Wagner in Madrid on the basis of an international arrest warrant quoting genocide as well as homicide, illegal deprivation of liberty and kidnapping.
The charges refer to actions allegedly taken by Mr Wagner who is of Argentinian and German nationality when he was in the military during the administration of a previous government.
He was immediately released on bail due to his age and medical condition but is required to report daily to the court and was required to surrender his passport and agree not to attempt to leave the country.
Amongst the crimes that he is accused of, with others, is the kidnapping and subsequent disappearance of a 24-year-old model Marie Anne Erize Tisseau in October 1976 as well as a number of crimes which took place between 1976 and 1983.
The Argentinean authorities now have 40 days to submit documents substantiating their application for extradition.
