A GROUP of conservationists, zoos and other interested parties from all over the world have banded together to declare March 16 as International Macaque Day.

The Alameda Wildlife and Conservation Park will join in the celebrations by opening from 3pm to 6pm with the aim of raising awareness of the monkeys and the conservation projects that support them. There will be free entry to the park, with activities involving the animals, and plenty of other things to amuse and enthral young visitors.

Brian Gomila from Monkey Talk will explain the work that his group undertakes on the Macaques and Jessica Leaper will explain the work being undertaken by environmentalists with the wild Macaques in Morocco.
