Fighting roosters: Suffered horrific injuries.
SEVENTEEN people in the Province of Almeria are being investigated by the Guardia Civil for their alleged involvement in illegal cock fights.
The investigations began after a cockfighting underworld was detected, leading to a raid on a club in Viator, which was lined wall to wall with chicken coops and featured a designated area being used as a fighting pit.
When Guardia Civil officers entered the club, they interrupted a fight between several roosters, which was being attended by some 120 people, including several minors.
During the raid, the officers managed to find 30 roosters, 11 of which were seriously injured and were taken to a veterinary clinic. After the vet examined them he determined that their organs were badly damaged and had to euthanise the creatures.
The owner of the club, the referee, and the owners of the birds are being investigated for their presumed involvement. If found guilty, they will be charged with crimes against flora and fauna.
