ALMERIA City Council intends to crack down on cyclists under a new pedestrian and bicycle bylaw it is currently preparing for approval.
The new bylaw will allow for cyclists caught wearing headphones or using mobile phones or distracting items to be fined up to €200, with more severe fines permitted if the culprit is also found to have been drinking alcohol or taking drugs.
When parking cyclists are obliged to use specific railings to park their bikes if within 75 metres of the facilities. If not, they will be allowed to chain their wheels to urban fittings but may not obstruct passage of pedestrians or traffic.
