THREE young men, aged between 18 and 21 years old, have been detained in Benalmadena and Melilla for their alleged involvement in robberies at a Costa del Sol hotel.

Police were alerted by an employee of the hotel, located on Calle Carril del Siroco, when they spotted three youths staying at the resort carrying a television down one of the establishment’s corridors.

He later realised that TVs were missing from two apartments in the complex, and this was swiftly followed by an English tourist waking up in his room to discover that he was missing a mobile phone, cash, jewellery and designer clothes.

Other guests also heard the suspects as they attempted to access their rooms, before pretending that they were at the wrong door when they realised the occupants were awake.

National Police officers managed to locate two of the bandits at Arroyo de la Miel train station, who were wearing the stolen jewellery and carrying €4,615 in cash, while the third was apprehended at the Melilla border, where all three live.

The pair arrested in Benalmadena are also accused of two violent assaults on pedestrians in the town.
