Star Wars and pets in Denia

HUNDREDS of people, and a significant number of animals, gathered at Denia Marina on June 4 and 5 for the town’s seventh Mascotetes Fiesta.

The festival was about more than just pets as demonstrated by the opening ceremony on Saturday starring the 501st Star Wars Legion, together with some very warm-looking storm troopers. There was then an attempt to beat the world record of dogs with socks, with 232 dogs (with socks) gathering together.

This attempt has been submitted to Guinness as a possible world record. Other pet related events included a dog talent show and the best guard dog. Later in the evening well-known Spanish artist Alejandro Botto talked about his Perroton initiative, which encourages people to adopt dogs as companions.

Sunday saw a pet agility competition followed by a more traditional dog show. The organisers also took time to remind people of the importance of civic responsibility regarding pets.
