A trio of men join a scientific expedition to one of the few remaining uncharted areas of the world and discover a lost civilisation populated entirely by women, which is not only functional, but a flawless utopia.
Gilman’s novella is both bold, and empowering; humour and devastation are neatly entwined into the misconceptions of women’s capabilities and needs. Written in 1915, this feminist utopian novella was ahead of its time and remains relevant today.
