SCHOOL TOURNAMENT: The students debated ‘Social media.’
ALMERIA’s debaters of the future have taken part in a school tournament held in Cuevas del Almanzora.
The tournament was part of a scheme developed by Cuevas-Olula school and supported by Cuevas Council and the Almeria Parents’ Federation (FAPACE) and teams from Alto Almanzora secondary school in Tijola and Mar Serena secondary school in Pulpi competed, while teachers and students from other schools in Macael, Olula del Rio and Albox attended as spectators.
The topic the students debated was ‘Social media: does it facilitate or obstruct communication?’ The winning team was Mar Serena’s first higher secondary team, consisting of Alba Navarro, Cristobal Luis Caceres, Samuel Perez and Angeles Rodriguez, and diplomas for best speakers were awarded to Mariana Lozano del Aguila and Fernando Borja Perez from Alto Almanzora school and Myriam Parra Guillen from Mar Serena.
The aim of the scheme is to train teachers and students in debating techniques to help prepare them for the future.
