Fire in the hold as pleasure boats burn in Marbella

A LARGE fire broke out in La Bajadilla port in Marbella on Wednesday June 22, as a blaze which broke out on a 14-metre yacht spread to engulf six other vessels moored up nearby.

Emergency services were alerted just after 8.30pm, leading firefighters and police officers scrambling to arrive at the scene, with the inferno under control less than an hour later.

No people were injured during the incident, although the damage done to three of the boats was apparently considerable, while a dense plume of black smoke was visible across the city.

The fire is thought to have started due to an explosion in the yacht’s fuel tank.
