Mallorca gives Hollywood star an artistic awakening

The original film, directed by Schweiger, was a massive hit in Germany

Amid the stunning scenery of Mallorca’s Valldemossa, nestled in the hills of the Tramuntana mountains, Hollywood icon Michael Douglas announced that he will produce and star in a hotly anticipated remake of hugely successful German film ‘Head Full of Honey.’

The actor, who with his wife, Welsh siren Catherine Zeta-Jones, owns one of the island’s most luxurious properties, was holidaying there for a few days and met with his friend, renowned German actor and director Til Schweiger, before broadcasting the news.

“Spent a few days at our beautiful home in Mallorca and met up with friend Til Schweiger, Germany’s leading actor/director, with whom I will do a picture early next year. Til is a great guy and I am looking forward to starring in and producing a remake of his very successful German picture Head Full of Honey,” wrote Douglas.

The original film, directed by Schweiger, was a massive hit in Germany, drawing more than seven million cinephiles and being short-listed for the country’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars.

Schweiger is one of the few German actors to have cracked Hollywood, although the American remake of his film will have to see incredible success if he wants to buy Douglas and Zeta-Jones’ home, on the market since last year.

Valued at more than €50 million, their 247-acre estate is viewed as among the most expensive on the island.
