A MAN and a woman have been arrested in Cordoba for allegedly trying to marry an underage girl off to a 70-year-old man in exchange for €10,000.
The National Police began investigations after the teenager was reported missing, and eventually discovered that she had run away from home because she was to be forced to marry the elderly man, who had agreed the price with a family member.
The girl’s mother and the relative had both been arrested for a suspected crime of attempted human trafficking.
The police operation was carried out under the National Police force’s Plan Against Human Trafficking with Sexual Aims. Since the plan was launched in 2013, the force has received more than 5,300 anonymous reports of possible cases via its telephone number 900 105 090 and email trata@policia.es.
