CAR RALLIES: Bring dust, but also visitors and cash.
THE second Rally Ciudad de Velez-Malaga, which ran on Saturday and Sunday (June 18-19) brought big bucks and promise for the future to the town, the council’s Sports department has reported.
The event attracted about 8,000 people and generated an economic impact of around €500,000, department head Maria Jose Roberto and event organiser Rafael Arjona reported, and there is a possibility that the town’s rally, which currently provides points for the Andalucian Championship, could in the future be included on the national rally calendar.
Arjona stated: “Visitors and locals were able to enjoy a great show which brought benefits to Velez as all the hotels were fully booked. “I would like to thank the security forces, the work done by all involved in organising the event, the sponsors and the public, who all collaborated to make everything go smoothly and with no incidents,” he concluded.
