OFFICERS of the National Police have broken up a criminal group dedicated to breaking into holiday homes in an operation carried out in the province of Alicante. The main objective was to steal jewellery, watches, electronics and cash.

The investigation began last February when officers received information from the Interior Attaché of the Embassy of Romania in Spain, of a burglary in an Alicante town. Having received this information and combining it with ongoing investigations, officers were able to identify a person responsible for the burglaries and then, the rest of the group.

As a result of the investigation, they arrested four people and have conducted searches in Valencia, where officers seized more than a dozen mobile phones and tablets, two laptops and various valuables including watches, collectable coins and jewellery.

The operation was carried out by officers of Group 1 Crimes Heritage Central UDEV and the Group of Narcotics and Organized Crime Brigade of the Local Judicial Police Station Gandia.
