REPORTS are emerging that the mother-in-law of Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone has been kidnapped in Brazil and a 120 million reals (€33 million) ransom demanded for her release.
Although yet to be confirmed by either the police or the Ecclestone family, according to the Brazilian magazine Veja, 67-year-old Aparecida Schunck was snatched on Friday in her Sao Paulo neighbourhood.
The billionaire F1 boss is married to her 38-year-old daughter Fabiana and the two live together in London.
Brazil has its fair share of the Latin American phenomenon of kidnappings targeting wealthy families and individuals, but it is thought that this would be the highest ever ransom demand made in the country, which hosts the Olympic Games next month.
