PAY RISE: On the cards for 5,000 hotel workers.
AROUND 5,000 hotel workers in Mallorca will receive a pay rise. It comes following an agreement with the unions after the CCOO denounced around 35 establishments for not paying staff correctly after going from a three-star to a four-star hotel. Thousands of staff are affected and will receive an average of €50 extra a month.
The sector collective agreement includes a salary of around €50 a month for workers in four and five-star establishments. During recent years, many establishments made renovations to increase their star rating, but in doing so, have failed to increase their staff’s wage accordingly.
Hotels argued that as they were still waiting for the Ministry of Tourism to carry out inspections to verify that they have met requirements to improve their rating, they have not increased wages.
Following an agreement made, hotels will pay the salary increase and will back pay staff for up to a year.
