CALA VARQUES: Is one of Mallorca’s secret gems.

AN illegal beach hut at Cala Varques on the east of the island was closed in a dramatic police swoop which saw 55 people camping there being questioned.

The raid involved dozens of police officers and came at the height of a busy summer which has seen the area swamped by traffic chaos.

A popular wild and unspoilt beach, Cala Varques is growing increasingly popular with visitors, even forcing police to close the access road at some points and encouraging obsessed swimmers to simply camp there to ensure they get a decent spot.

South of Porto Cristo, taking in around 90m of sand with a gorgeous cove, Cala Varques is one of Mallorca’s secret gems, unfortunately precisely the same reason it is growing so quickly in popularity.
