TATTOO CONVENTION: Who will be your favourite?

WHILE many cultural observers may attest tattoos have become part of the narcissistic, selfie-obsessed modern culture, historical artistic hero Picasso is to act as the ‘host of honour’ at the third Malaga tattoo convention, which will be held at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos from September 9-11.

More than 400 tattoo artists from five continents will converge on the provincial capital to discuss and showcase the latest inking techniques, designs and body art, which much like rock and roll music has arguably become commodified to the point of irrelevance.

Performers during the three-day event include Malaga-based MC Sicario, Spanish Queen of Burlesque Vinila Von Bismark, best known for her work on ‘The Hole’ theatre shows, Niño Malo, the first man in Spain to have his eyeballs tattooed, and Lidia Reyes, officially the most tattooed woman in Europe.

There will also be a ‘Mr and Mrs Tattoo’ parade, with visitors invited to vote for their favourite heavily-inked hero and heroine, a fashion show by local swimwear purveyors Tadoro Tuduri, plus skateboard, graffiti, and body painting competitions as well as a host of live music and magic performances.
