THE man suspected of setting off the bomb in the Chelsea district of New York and also being responsible for the explosive devices found in a waste bin in Elizabeth New Jersey was involved in a shoot-out with investigating officers on Monday September 19.
Afghani born Ahmad Khan Rahami 28 whose family owned a chicken store in Elizabeth was discovered in Linden New Jersey apparently asleep in the doorway of a bar and when police were alerted and arrived at the scene, he drew a gun and fired at two officers and then ran away before being shot multiple times.
He has now been charged with five counts of attempted murder as well as a number of different charges connected with possession of an illegal firearm.
Whilst authorities believe that his actions were terrorist inspired, they will use his arrest to try to identify both the reasons for his actions and whether any other parties were involved.
