ACTION PLAN: The initial meeting of the combined groups.
CALPE Town Council have created a special Forestry Bureau to assist in prevention of forest fires, in the wake of the recent blazes which devastated areas around Javea and Benitachell.
The departments of environment, town planning, citizen safety, and citizen participation, are to join forces in order to better protect local green areas.
Members of civil groups interested in nature and ecology have also been invited to add their voices to the scheme, in addition to municipal technicians and field experts.
One of the first proposals given the go ahead will be to urge the regional environmental ministry to undertake prevention measures in certain areas of the municipality which are considered to be at risk.
A pair of patrols has also been circulating on a daily basis, with environmental agents driving around the local hills on the look-out for fires or potential perpetrators.
