International crack down on Daesh propagandists

THANKS to international cooperation between the Guardia Civil and the authorities in Belgium and Germany,  five people have been arrested on September 28, three in Spain, one in Brussels and one in Wuppertal all accused of being active members of Daesh.

Four of the five men are Spanish and the fifth a Moroccan who was arrested in Melilla are believed to be part of a terrorist cell involved in promoting the ideals of Daesh through the internet.

Operating a Facebook account called ‘Islam in Spanish,’ they actually promoted the concept of jihadism and praised martyrs who gave their lives for Daesh and by the time they were apprehended, they had recruited 32,500 members to their Facebook group.

It appeared that the men had a number of themes running through their posts which included the praising of terrorist acts and horror, the location of potential recruits prepared to fight for their cause, arrange for such fighters to become active either in Europe or in the Maghreb, serve as a propaganda outlet promoting the ideals of Daesh and encouraging followers to hate and attack particular religious or political groups.

These arrests follow arrests in Spain within the last week of two potential ‘foot soldiers ’who had tried to meet up with terrorist forces in Syria.
