FIREARM: The suspect was using a real gun to threaten his young family.

GUARDIA CIVIL investigators in Adra, Almeria, have rescued a six-month old baby boy and his parents after they were held at gunpoint and prevented from leaving home freely by the child’s grandfather.

Police were alerted when a young girl, the daughter of the detainee, presented herself at the  local station and explained that her father had held a gun to herself, her 18-year-old brother, his 15-year-old girlfriend and their six-month old child.

The 38-year-old man apparently wanted to know the whereabouts of his estranged wife, and was convinced that his children knew where she was.

He allegedly threatened the youngsters and would not let them all leave the house at the same time in order that they remained scared and did not go to the police.

Officers immediately contacted the man’s ex-wife, who immediately filed a complaint at her local station.

This permitted investigators to raid the house, but they first requested assistance from the Special Intervention Unity, since they knew that the suspect was armed.

As they burst through the front door the man tried to pick up his weapon but was wrestled to the ground before he could do so.

Once they recovered the firearm they found that it was a fully-operational handgun containing 60 rounds of ammunition, and the suspect now remains in custody pending trial.
