STOLEN FRUIT: found inside the van described by an informer.
THREE men suspected of being behind at least five thefts from fruit farms in the Axarquia area have been arrested by the National Police in Velez-Malaga.
The authorities were alerted by a call on the afternoon of October 12 that three men in a van were stealing mangos from a farm on the road between Cajiz and Almayate and officers were sent to investigate.
Upon their arrival, the police officers found a van which matched the informer’s description and contained six sacks with 240 kilos of fruit inside. Three men aged between 27 and 36 were found picking fruit and carrying it out through a hole in the fence.
The National Police has increased surveillance in the area to crack down on agricultural theft, the force reported, with more officers stationed and helicopter patrols joining the efforts to prevent and investigate this type of crime.
