Detectives searching for the remains of Ben Needham who went missing in 1991 now believe it is probable he died as a result of an accident on the Greek island of Kos.
After 21 days excavating farmland around a holiday home searching for the remains of Ben, who disappeared aged just 21 months, British and Greek search and rescue teams finished on Sunday.
South Yorkshire Police revealed on Monday that an item believed to belong to the toddler, from Sheffield, was found during the renewed searches.
It is now thought Ben was killed in a construction accident near the family´s holiday home, involving local builder Konstantinos Barkas, who died of cancer in 1995.
The Needham family, who believed the toddler was abducted, have been informed of the police’s findings.
