Princess Diana’s stepmother dies at 87

RAINE Spencer, who was the stepmother of Princess Diana has died aged 87 after a short bout with an undisclosed illness.

The Courtess was married to Earl Spencer, father of the late Princess, and a famous socialite in her day.

Born Raine McCorquodale to a wealthy father and famous author mother, the 18-year-old became a debutante in London’s high society in 1947 and was soon engaged to Gerald Legge, the Earl of Dartmouth.

She married Earl Spencer when Diana was a teenager and had a notoriously rocky relationship with her step-children, though by all accounts it cleared up in later life.

Spencer leaves behind her son William Legge, the Earl of Dartmouth and a UKIP MEP.
