COLLAPSED WALL: On land adjacent to residents’ homes.

A group of 30 Velez-Malaga residents outside of their homes due to the collapse of a wall on a plot of land adjacent to their residences. The incident occurred on Calle Canalejas at around 5am on October 21.

The residents were awoken by a thunderous crash, and were forced to evacuate their homes.

The noise had come from a wall on an adjoining construction site, which had collapsed. At the present moment, the reasons for the collapse remain unclear, although technical experts have been brought in to analyse the situation.

The residents stayed in hotels or with family members, while excavating machines were brought in to stabilise the land.

Vehicular traffic in the area was cut off and several nearby businesses were forced to close.

Velez mayor Antonio Moreno Ferrer asked the residents to be “calm and patient” and ensured them that once the necessary inspections and correctional measures had been carried out, they would be able to return to their homes.
