TRAINING EXERCISE: Will take place in the waters of Cadiz, Almeria and the Balearics.
MORE than 3,000 military personnel are currently participating in the Spanish Navy’s biggest amphibious training exercise, known as Gruflex 61. It started on November 14 and will continue until November 25, and is taking place in the waters of Cadiz, Almeria, and the Balearic Islands.
The exercise incorporates various kinds of vessels, including frigates, minesweepers, and combat ships. There will also be units from the Portuguese Navy as well as support from the Spanish Air Force and the Spanish Army.
The first phase of the exercise will involve the analysis of a hypothetical crisis scenario. In the second phase, the different units will be deployed and will carry out a projected version of how they would manage and resolve said crisis.
Gruflex 61 aims to train military personnel in the planning and execution of amphibious operations and to give a demonstration of the extent of Spain’s naval power.
