Some of the lights in Main Street.
IN the same way that cities and towns around the world put up Christmas lights, Gibraltar with its diverse religious background does the same but calls it the Festival of Lights in order to try to be all inclusive.
This year, the lights were illuminated on the evening of November 19 as local schoolboy Nail Hasisen performed the ceremony with Culture Minister Steven Linares.
The early evening was dominated by a number of performances of songs and dances from local groups with diverse performances from young people of all ages.
Father Christmas and his elves made a special appearance and additional musical support included the Sea Scouts Drum and Pipe Band and a number of youth choirs all of whom were well received by the large audience and there was even a little unseasonal (and created) snow to christen the event.
The numerous lights will be switched on at 7pm every evening until January 6.
