VIOLENT SCENES: Avenida Federico Garcia Lorca and Plaza Marques de Heredia.
VIOLENCE engulfed the city centre of Almeria over the weekend with four arrests, five assaults and one stabbing.
The mayhem unfolded during the early hours of Saturday morning November 19 in two separate stanzas, the first in the Marques de Heredia square and the second on Avenida Federico Garcia Lorca.
In the first incident a group of four youngsters began heckling a flower seller at 4.30am. When two other youths intervened they were subjected to a vicious attack with one being glassed on the head and rushed to hospital.
A few hours later police were called again, this time to the second site where they found three people lying in the street injured, the most serious with a knife wound in his right leg.
Police then threw a surveillance net over the city to catch the assailants, successfully capturing two in one location and the other pair further down the road. One was aged under 18 and shipped of to the Children’s Office, while the other three will feel the full brunt of the law.
