ROAD CLOSED: Watch out for further landslides.
A HUGE rock crashed through the security fencing on the CN 340 near the access to Punta de la Mona and landed smack bang in the middle of the road, in the lane heading towards Malaga. With a volume of several cubic metres it would have caused catastrophic damage, but luckily there were no people nor vehicles in the boulder’s path.
The incident occurred at kilometre 309.8 at roughly 3.30pm and is thought to have been a product of the epic rains last week across Almuñecar and the southern coast.
Police are warning motorists that further landslides are possible in the near future and to be wary.
It took a road maintenance crew several hours to break the boulder down and remove it once officers had alerted them to the incident.
