Catalan Bay after the storm.
AS the torrential rain on the Costa del Sol transforms into a few days of dry and almost bright weather, so Gibraltar also recovers from what was a terrible weekend of rain and hail.
The areas of La Campana and La Linea de la Concepcion are susceptible to general flooding which meant that Gibraltar, whilst not cut off has a double problem, firstly from the rain which can cause mini-flash floods as it cascades down the many narrow hilly roads and also for those wishing to leave and drive to different parts of Spain.
It appears that the rainfall was by no means the worst that the Rock has experienced over the past few years but it still resulted in some 40 emergency calls that had to be attended with a number of shops and commercial premises flooded as well as some rock falls causing road closures.
There was some disruption at schools and the Dental Department at the Primary Care Centre had to be transferred to the hospital, but when compared to the rest of the Campo, Gibraltar escaped fairly lightly and the emergency services coped quite efficiently with all of the problems even though the actual rainfall over the weekend was more than normally recorded for the whole of the month of December.
