A 39-YEAR-OLD Romanian man was killed in Andalucia on Friday, December 9, after leaping from the ambulance which was transporting him to Jaen.
The victim had been picked up in the village of Porcuna due to being heavily intoxicated, according to health officials, and was due to spend the night in hospital recovering.
Having woken up as the ambulance passed by Torre del Campo on the A-316 dual carriageway, also known as the Autovia del Olivar, the man suddenly elected to jump out of the vehicle as it was moving, crashing into the tarmac and suffering fatal injuries.
The paramedics were unable to do anything for him, and his death was confirmed by the Guardia Civil as they arrived at the scene.
The investigation remains open while police clarify the circumstances of the tragedy and await the autopsy results.
