Benidorm in flood

AFTER the terrible beating that the Costa del Sol took from the rain in the early part of December it appears that Costa Blanca is now suffering some of the heaviest rain for some time.

Reports have come in that the rain in Benidorm was so heavy that at least one person was swept out to sea on December 17 and may have drowned whilst flash floods have taken over many streets and buildings in the town. In addition, there is a second report suggesting an elderly man in Finestrat died whilst trying to recover his vehicle against police advice.

Further south, Alicante province generally is battening down the hatches as the rain started to arrive on the previous Friday, with many schools closed early because of the anticipated problems and Torrevieja has implemented emergency protocol with an additional 20 volunteers standing by in case they are needed by the Civil Protection unit.
