End of Spain’s ‘Christmas season’ leaves 57,250 jobless

THE end of the Spanish Christmas season has left a further 57,257 people without jobs bringing the total figure for the country up to 3.76 million.

Malaga Province saw 1,135 workers lose their jobs in January, making it the lowest increase after the Christmas season in a decade.

Murcia lost an additional 883 people bringing their total to 117,496.

The figure means 9.2 per cent fewer people are unemployed in the area compared to the same period for 2015.

Experts at Spain’s Ministry for Employment believe the better than expected figures could point to a continuing improvement in the outlook for Spain’s economy.
