Strikes and marches encouraged across the country on International Women’s Day

WOMEN all over Spain are being encouraged to strike at midday on Wednesday (8 March) and make a stand for equal rights.

Women’s rights groups across Spain are supporting the scheduled protest, which is intended to last for an hour.

The demonstration is in protest of the gender pay gap, which in Spain sees women earn 23% less than men according to the Institute for National Statistics.

Gender violence will also be a key topic of discussion during the day’s events, since Spain has already seen 17 women lose their lives since the start of 2017.

International Women’s Day will not only see protests and demonstrations, as many municipalities will take the opportunity to celebrate important female figures and inspire women to pursue their goals.

Euro Weekly News will be providing updates throughout the day.
