WINNER: Vettel celebrates after taking the chequered flag.

FERRARI’S Sebastian Vettel picked up his first Grand Prix victory since Singapore 2015 in the first Formula 1 race of the new season in Australia.

The German took the chequered flag 9.9 seconds ahead of Mercedes Lewis Hamilton after the British driver started in pole.

Hamilton finished one and a half seconds clear of teammate Valtteri Bottas in third.

The victory for Ferrari suggests that this season will be more competitive after three years of Mercedes dominance, with a new mechanical formula having been introduced.

Afterwards, Hamilton said: “Big congratulations to Ferrari and Sebastian.

“In the race we struggled with the tyres. I had to stop early because I ran out of grip.”

Well done Vettel and great to see Hamilton come in second, let us hope Hamilton has a good year this year and gets the WC’ship back to Britian. 🙂

Just a shame top UK earners like this reside in Monaco so he doesn’t have to pay tax in UK though, makes you wonder how much money… just isn’t enough :-).
