WORKING together, officers from the Guardia Civil and National Police have broken up a gang of Algerians and Moroccans who were involved in at least 40 robberies in Estepona, Fuengirola, Marbella and Mijas.
Seven people were arrested after 11 raids on properties in Algeciras, Ceuta, Fuengirola, Mijas and Sabinillas and a large amount of stolen property as well as firearms and false documentation was recovered.
Using false documents including passports, the gang rented properties and hired vehicles from which they conducted ‘sorties’ to identify expensive properties which might be temporarily unoccupied and therefore ideal to break into.
The members of the gang forced windows or doors to gain access and only stole cash and jewellery before making a quick exit taking with them the keys of any vehicles on site which they used in subsequent robberies before selling them on after changing their licence plates.
