Euro Weekly News back on the track with SPV Racing

THE Mike G Racing circuit in Guadix, Granada, once again provided the perfect venue on Wednesday April 5, as Euro Weekly News publisher Steven Euesden buckled up for his second experience behind the wheel of SPV Racing’s Ligier JS P3 European Le Mans Series car.

The aim this time was to complete 60 test laps of the challenging three-kilometre track in the 420 BHP car affectionately referred to as ‘The Beast’ by the SPV pit crew.

Also stepping out in the Ligier, this time decked out in Team EWN as well as Euro Weekly News livery were professional racing drivers Kim Rodkjaer and Alvaro Fontes.

Kim hails from Copenhagen, Denmark, and has previously driven in the Auto-G Danish Thundersport Championship for the Fukamuni Racing Team.

He will be one of the named drivers for SPV in this year’s European Le Mans Series, which comprises six four-hour race events taking place at some of Europe’s most iconic circuits.

The first round is at Silverstone on April 15 before the championship takes in Monza, Italy, on May 14, the Red Bull Ring at Speilberg, Austria, on July 23, the Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, France on August 27, Spa in Belgium on September 24 and finally the Algarve International Circuit at Portimao, Portugal on October 22.

SPV’s second driver in the series will be Spaniard Alvaro Fontes, who was also testing at Guadix alongside Kim and Steven.

Alvaro has 249 races under his belt and has stepped onto the podium after over a quarter of them, and has experience with a wide range of vehicles having driven the SEAT Leon TCR, Ferrari F430 GT2 and Porsche 997 GT3R in competition, among others.

The SPV team is now working towards their ultimate aim of achieving a podium finish in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2019, driving in the LMP-2 class.

Many thanks as always to SPV CEO Raul Garcia Istern, team manager Lars GV Linberg and the pit crew, plus Clive Greenhalgh and all at the Mike G Racing Circuit.
