Benidorm goes organic with opening of new supermarket

Fresh fruit and vegetables delivered directly from local farmers

HEALTH conscious shoppers from Benidorm and its surrounding towns can now complete their weekly food shop safe in the knowledge it is certifiably organic, thanks to a brand new supermarket which has opened its doors in La Marina.

Ecorganic, an exciting new concept for the town, has over 6,000 organically certified products on its shelves which cover a floor space of 525 square metres.

With a vast array of produce ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables, cereals, meats, dairy products, bread, pasta, tinned good, baby food, juices, beers and wines to ethical beauty products, cleaning goods and pet foods, Ecorganic is the one stop shop for your regular organic and ethically sourced produce.

The large and airy store also has an extensive range of economically priced bulk produce ie cereals, nuts and seeds, macrobiotic foods, gluten free products and hundreds of vegan/vegetarian friendly items.

Founder and head of the company, Elisabeth Hofmann, along with husband Pello Aizpuru started the company five years ago, with a small organic store in the city of Valencia.

Since then they have slowly expanded their concept across the Valencia Region, opening two more shops in Valencia City, one in Ondara/Denia and another in Alcoy/Concentaina. The Denia store is their largest to date, with a floor space of 700 square metres and the couple now have a total of 85 employees working in their company.

The Benidorm store, Ecorganic’s seventh supermarket, conveniently located adjacent to the large roundabout entering the La Marina Portal, was designed and fitted out by Project Director Jesus Herrera, who has created a bright, spacious environment for customers to browse amongst their impressive range of products.

Whether, you are regular organic shoppers, new to the concept, or just curious to find out more, Ecorganic’s friendly team of thirteen knowledgeable and multilingual staff are always on hand to offer help, guidance and advice on your particular requirements.

Marketing Executive Gloria Salinas, from the company’s headquarters in Gran Via, Valencia,  explained the ethos behind their stores: ”We want people to be able to find what is right for them ”, she said, ”We also have a product range called Economic, which has items throughout the store, guaranteed to be the best possible price always.”

Her Marketing colleague, Margit Steiner pointed out the freshness of their perishable goods. All of the organically sourced, seasonal fruit and vegetables are replenished direct from local farmers, who deliver twice daily, ensuring only top quality, fresh produce is on sale.

Occasionally, during winter months, some goods are brought from further afield, such as apples form the Italian Tyrol, but this is a rare occurrence.

The ethically sourced meat is delivered direct from meat farmers in the North of Spain, mostly Huesca, Catalunya, Navarra, Segovia and Palencia provinces.

Elisabeth and Pello firmly believe in organic as a fundamental right and strive to give a healthy diet to everyone. For them, organic stands for fair pricing via direct purchase from producers, local products, bulk foods and a reasonable profit margin.

The Ecorganic Benidorm supermarket is open Monday to Saturday from 9.00am to 9.30pm and has ample free parking directly in front of the store.

It is situated on Avda. Federico García Lorca 20, local 2. 03509 Finestrat. Ecorganic is positioned next to Tiendanimal and KFC. It is a separate building very close to the ‘La Marina’ Shopping Center.
