AN AS yet unnamed 27-year-old has become the second British holidaymaker to drown in the Canary Islands in less than 24 hours.
He went missing after going for a swim with his partner off the Playa el Ingles beach in San Bartolome de Tirajana, Gran Canaria.
His body was recovered four hours after she made an emergency call having lost track of him, following a desperate search involving divers, a boat and two helicopters.
He was in cardiac arrest after being pulled from the water around 200 metres offshore, but paramedics were unable to revive him.
The incident came less than 24 hours after a 30-year-old British diver, who has also not been named, died at a popular sea cave known as El Tancon in Tenerife.
