Cleaning frenzy in Fuengirola

Fuengirola councillor for cleaning, Pedro Vega, has announced his new plan to ensure that city waste bins are cleaned and emptied 365 days a year.

The city has a total of 1,241 organic waste bins, a figure that rises to over 3,000 when including recycling bins, that have been split between five separate cleaning companies.

“We have divided Fuengirola into five separate sectors, and each of them have been assigned a pressure washer in order to clean the containers and ecological area, 365 days a year,” he stated in the press release.

Vega explained that the initiative came from “an analysis which brought to light several deficiencies within the Department of Cleaning.

“After we had increased the number of waste disposal containers across the area, we didn’t implement and grow comprehensive maintenance alongside it, which led to a lack of cleanliness surrounding our waste services.”

The councillor took the press opportunity to remind residents in the area that the upgrades implemented by the council won’t be enough on their own, adding that “all of the improvements must be accompanied by citizen collaboration in order to keep Fuengirola clean.”
