Council accused of deception after Tarragona nursery nurse charged with child abuse

A NURSERY supply nurse has been charged for allegedly committing 13 child abuse offences in El Morell, Tarragona, amid rumours of a council cover-up.

It comes after the nurse was sacked last year, when a number of anxious parents submitted their medical records and photographs of their childrens’ injuries to investigators.

She claimed that the victims hurt themselves falling off a slide, but doctors concluded that this was “incompatible with the injuries suffered,” according to a court report.

During the initial hearing it was alleged that she repeatedly slammed one baby into a mattress while refusing to administer medication to another suffering an asthma attack.

Having initially been contracted to cover two months of classes at the municipal nursery, the 32-year-old suspect, who has ties to the local Ibanez political family, remained in her post for eight years.

Also implicated are town mayor, Pere Guinovart, ex-education councillor, Montse Ibanez, and the former director of the nursery, who has not been named.

The town hall claims that the defendant was not linked to the Ibanez family when initially contracted, although the position was not made public before being filled.

The nurse has been charged with multiple counts of mistreatment, molestation, physical violence and harassment of children aged 0-3 years, and banned from coming within 100 metres of the school for the duration of the trial.
