LIZ PARRY, former editor of Sur in English, received her British Empire Medal from the British Ambassador Simon Manley on Thursday in recognition of her services helping British citizens in Andalusia.

Parry was bestowed with her BEM (British Empire Medal), awarded by Her Majesty The Queen and which was announced in January 2017.

“I am delighted to present this award to Liz as recognition of her many years of hard work helping British citizens in Andalusia. Liz has rendered a great service to the United Kingdom”, HMA Simon Manley said.

“I feel so lucky to have been in a position to help other people make the most of life in Spain. To be awarded a British Empire Medal for doing something which has given me so much pleasure is the icing on the cake, and I am very honoured”, said Liz Parry.

Under her leadership, the newspaper (with emphasis on Spanish and local news for the international community) was taken from 24 pages and 3,000 copies to an average of 72 pages and 150,000 copies.

Parry is also founding member and Vice President of the Costa Press Club and she is on the board of the Fundación Cementerio Inglés de Málaga.
