Heatwave claims the life of a road worker in Sevilla

A ROAD WORKER has died of heat exhaustion whilst laying asphalt in Sevilla.

The 54-year-old man told his co-workers he was feeling unwell at around 9pm yesterday (July 13), prompting them to call emergency services.

Unfortunately authorities later confirmed the man had passed away due to the high temperatures he was working in.

A spokesperson for a workers union (CCOO), Carlos Aristu, said it was “illogical” for someone to be working “in more than 40 degree heat, which when combined with the heat coming off the asphalt reaches some 170 degrees.”

“With or without consent, it doesn’t make sense to let people carry out hard tasks such as laying asphalt in these extreme temperatures,” he added.

Many regions are still on alert for high temperatures, with areas still expecting to reach highs of 44 degrees over the weekend.
