RESCUED: Dogs found in terrible condition on Roquetas rooftop

A PACK of abandoned dogs were rescued from a roof by Guardia Civil officers in Almeria responding to calls from concerned Roquetas residents.

They worked closely with Local Police colleagues to secure the ramshackle and dangerous building where the dogs were being held on the roof, exposed to the elements.

Some of the dogs were tied to polls, all of them were lacking food, water and basic supplies. There was no shelter and they were surrounded by dirt and faeces.

It is unclear how long they had been left there for and unlikely they would have survived much longer.

Among them were four potentially dangerous dogs and one puppy just a few weeks old with gashes on its ears.

Police believe the animals had been bred for illegal dog fights. The adults all bore serious injuries likely caused by intense fighting.

The police have since taken the dogs to local non-profit animal association Animals in Trouble. Investigators are searching for the owners of the dogs, who face criminal prosecution if identified.

This summer the Guardia Civil in Almeria are running a campaign against animal abuse with the Twitter hashtag #Yosipuedocontarlo. They request concerned citizens to report any situations of neglect or abuse they may have witessed.
