Short order: Cheeky lifeguards in Spain ordered to cover up

FEMALE lifeguards in Gijón, in Spain’s northern Asturias region, have been ordered to cover up and wear shorts to avoid men filming them and making jokes on social media.

The instruction  which was prompted after a spate of sexist Twitter jokes has sparked anger from locals and feminists alike.

Female lifeguards patrolling the beach of San Lorenzo regularly wear red swimsuits with long or sleeveless T-shirts. Until now shorts were optional.

But the cover-up instruction was issued after  a cheeky photograph was posted on Twitter with the caption: “Alarm in Gijón! 10 men drowned so far this morning. Some of them up to 2 or 3 times.”
