US OPEN WINNER: Rafael Nadal
SPAIN’S Rafael Nadal overwhelmed his opponent, Kevin Anderson, to win his third championship in the US Open at Flushing Meadow.
Anderson, the 31-year-old South African, ranked 32, was easily beaten 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 by the top-seeded player.
Nadal said he was “very happy to be back after a couple of years without competing at this very high, high level.”
“I learned a lot of lessons,” Anderson conceded. “It was a difficult match, up against somebody who has been on that stage over 20 times before.”
