TAKE-OFF; EasyJet flight leaves Malaga's Costa del Sol airport
AIRLINES flying between the UK and Spain are warning that flights could be affected by a national strike in France from the evening of October 9 until the morning of October 11.
French air traffic controllers are expected to join the general strike and the DGAC (French Civil Aviation Authority) has requested airlines to reduce their flight schedules by 30% on Tuesday.
The measures have been implemented after the CFDT, CGT, FO and Unsa unions urged the country’s 5.4million public service workers to walk out in protest over changes to France’s labour laws.
All UK carriers will be affected but EasyJet have already warned, “As a large percentage of easyJet’s flights fly over France, this will have an impact on our flights to and from French airports, as well as those flying over French airspace.
“Just like other airlines we are subject to French air traffic regulations, we therefore expect delays and cancellations on both days.
“We are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the strike on our customers, and have taken the decision to proactively cancel a number of flights, allowing customers to reorganise their journeys.”
The airline has said they will communicate directly to customers affected via SMS and email using the details provided at the time of booking.
EasyJet added that if a flight is delayed customers must still arrive at the airport for their original departure time as check in and bag drop times will not be extended.
Jet2 also released a statement saying, “Jet2.com has been made aware of industrial action supported by the Air Traffic Services in France between 9th October 18:00 BST and 11th October 03:00 BST. As a result, flights operating to France or through France airspace may be subject to disruption. Jet2.com regrets any disruption caused by these circumstances that are completely beyond our control.
“We wish to assure customers that we will do our utmost to keep any disruption to a minimum. Customers should still proceed to the airport and check-in at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled departure of their flight. Check-in closes 40 minutes prior to a flight’s scheduled departure time.
“Whilst some delays may be experienced, we will be working constantly to bring forward any delayed departures and get flights underway at the earliest possible opportunity.
