BENIDORM: Area around Calle Ibiza on lockdown after suspected gas leak

A SUSPECTED gas leak was reported in the popular Costa Blanca holiday hotspot of Benidorm this morning resulting in the temporary closure of several bars.

The incident was reported in the Calle Ibiza area – which includes Bobbys Bar, Shooters, Rose & Crown and The Dog House.

All bars in the vicinity were closed and people were told to avoid the area.

Speaking from the resort Tracey Thorne posted on social media, “We are currently under lockdown in the bar. Police are saying there is no risk of an explosion but the gas could effect health so please avoid the area. Road closed from Yellow Brick Road and all surrounding roads.”

Mark Lovegrove added, “The Dog House has to close. Hopefully open later. Sorry guys.

“Been told to close curtains, roof and stay inside. Stay careful – police are not messing around with this.”

UPDATE: 12:35 –  Mark Lovegrove confirmed that Calle Ibiza has reopened.
