COLLAPSED: The new pedestrian bridge spanning the highway
A BRAND NEW pedestrian bridge at Florida International University in the United States of America has collapsed crushing several cars beneath it and it is feared up to 10 people may have died.
The concrete bridge that was only hoisted into place a few days ago had not yet been opened.
In a press conference, Juan Perez, the director of the Miami Dade police department said: “Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims of this tragedy.
“We are assisting in the efforts and the main focus is to rescue people.”
Only a few days ago a company involved in the construction had tweeted about moving the span into place.
And a time-lapse video of the bridge move on Saturday morning has also appeared online.
